Claudia Reese started Cera-Mix Studios in 1981 on a screened
in front porch but quickly moved it into a spare bedroom. Cera-Mix has expanded many times since to
arrive at its present, hopefully permanent location. We are now situated at the top of a hill on Tumbleweed Trail in
Austin, TX where we catch the breezes and bask in the sunshine. We are creating a ceramic wonderland with
tile, sculpture, fountains, water catchments
systems and gardens all around.
In the studio we are making dinnerware, platters, tiles, sculpture, and
many kinds of ceramic necessities. Like
breathing in and breathing out, we started small, grew large and are now
settling into a happily medium size. We
take on commissions, do Art in Public Places projects, work with lots of kids
making tiles for libraries and schools, work with boy scouts, girl scouts, and
National Charity League girls to make hundreds of bowls for the Empty Bowl
project which benefits the Austin Food Bank.
And Claudia makes sculpture whenever she can.
Besides Claudia, the Cera-Mix staff includes
Maricella, Brittany, and sometimes Taylor.
In addition to Lupita Luna, our shy dog who has now found her voice and
Miss Fix It, the nasty cat we tried to banish but won’t go away, we have a
changing cast of chickens, lots of goldfish and Houdini, the disappearing
turtle.
